Lionel Messi has picked his sensational solo strike against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League as his favourite career goal.

The Argentina captain claimed a record-extending 8th Ballon d'Or in Paris on Monday night and has been left to reflect on an incredible career spanning almost two decades.

Messi who has scored over 800 goals in his career was asked in an interview with France Football if he had a favourite goal.

"A goal that I always remember, and I don't go much for the goal, and what the goals mean, it's the goal for Barcelona against Real Madrid, which we won 2-0 in the Champions League semi-final at the Bernabeu," he said.

The goal in question saw Messi waltz through the Real Madrid midfield and defence before firing a right-footed low drive beyond Iker Casillas.
