Peseiro confirms exit as Nigeria's coach after 'Pride and Honor' of Super Eagles spell
Jose Peseiro says it was an "immense privilege" to coach the Super Eagles after confirming his departure from the Nigeria national team job.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Nigeria will look for a new manager after failing to renew Peseiro’s contract as the coach of the Super Eagles.
The Portuguese tactician announced the conclusion of his 22-month reign via a Facebook post on Friday afternoon.
Peseiro leaves Super Eagles role
Peseiro guided Nigeria to the final of the recent Africa Cup of Nations, restoring belief after the team’s disappointing outing in the previous tournament.
And despite calls for him to continue, the 63-year-old revealed his Nigerian journey has come to an end.
"It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles," Peseiro wrote on Facebook. "We feel a sense of fulfilment."
The former Venezuela manager thanked NFF officials and players for their support during his time in charge.
"It has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are," he added.
Peseiro was appointed Nigeria coach in May 2022 on an initial one-year deal.
But after months of contract uncertainty, Peseiro has chosen not to continue his project with the three-time African champions.
The NFF must now identify a worthy successor to build on the foundations laid by the departing Peseiro.
