Newly promoted Premier League side Sunderland have signed French midfielder Enzo Le Fée from AS Roma for a club-record £19.3 million (almost €23 million).
The 25-year-old Enzo Le Fée has been playing at the Stadium of Light since January, initially on loan, and played a significant role in Sunderland's return to the Premier League.
The Black Cats finished 4th in the championship and secured promotion through the play-offs.
Le Fée has signed a four-year contract with Sunderland, with the permanent transfer clause activated following their promotion to the top flight.
"Before the play-off final, I said that my heart was in Sunderland – I wanted to stay, and that's why it was the most important match of my life. We did it together. I've enjoyed the football, my teammates, and the fans since I arrived. We've had an incredible journey, and now we're ready for the next step," Le Fée told the club's official website.
The Frenchman previously worked with current Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough, later played for Rennes, and joined Roma for a substantial fee less than a year ago.
However, he made only 10 appearances for the Italian side before being loaned to England.
