Controversy has once again erupted in La Liga following Real Madrid's defeat to Real Sociedad, with the red card issued to Dean Huijsen during their 2-1 victory.
The capital club believes the defender's dismissal was unwarranted, arguing he was not the last man in defence in that particular instance.
Real Madrid statement
In response, Real Madrid, through their club television channel, via Abola, announced that their patience has worn thin and they are preparing a dossier to submit to FIFA.
"It will include the refereeing errors from which the team has suffered in the first four rounds of La Liga, as well as throughout last season," Real Madrid stated.
Tensions escalated during the live broadcast of the match from San Sebastian on the club's TV channel. In the 32nd minute, Huijsen fouled Oyarzabal and referee Jesus Gil Manzano showed him a direct red card, deeming him the last defender, despite Eder Militão being only a few metres away. From the VAR room, Figueroa Vazquez opted not to call the head referee to review the situation on the monitor.
Following this decision, Real Madrid TV commentators sharply criticized the actions of both referees: "This La Liga is a disgrace because of what we just witnessed. Real Madrid is down to ten men. Huijsen is sent off, and coach Xabi Alonso received a yellow card, obviously because he is as outraged as all Madridistas. This is a shameful competition."
The indignation continued to mount. "They have once again distorted reality. They turned a situation that is not open to interpretation into one, just as they did the other day with Arda Güler. We'll see when the spokesperson for the Referees' Committee comes out again to analyse this situation.
"In any case, even if they admit the obvious error, it will be for nothing. Huijsen was not the last man, but they distort reality to justify such things. The consequences? We will see them, but they have falsified reality."
At halftime during the same broadcast, videos were shown of decisions made by both referees in Real Madrid matches from last season – first Gil Manzano and then the Sevillian in charge of VAR. "After what happened in San Sebastian and the previous performances of Gil Manzano and Figueroa Vazquez, which we just saw, the fairest thing would be a restraining order for these two individuals."
These complaints during the broadcast were merely a prelude to the news announced by the channel itself. Madrid will formally complain to the highest authority in world football to ensure action is taken and the situation is analysed, the club indicated.
