Real Madrid's interest in Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich as a replacement for Toni Kroos has sparked a fascinating transfer triangle, as Barcelona has also reportedly made a move for the versatile German international to strengthen the foundation of the team's central midfield.
What happened
According to German outlet BILD, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Kimmich, 29, who has made a name for himself both as a right-back and a defensive midfielder, has become one of the most coveted talents in the market following his contract standoff with Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid have entered the race as one of his suitors.
For the LALIGA champions, acquiring Kimmich could be seen as a move to replace Toni Kroos and bolster their midfield . Kimmich's versatility would also offer coach Carlo Ancelotti various tactical setups, potentially giving Real Madrid an edge in both domestic and European competitions.
However, Real Madrid's rivals Barcelona are also keen on landing Kimmich, following the arrival of former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick as the club's new manager.
Flick's relationship with Kimmich is an advantage for the Blaugrana; however, their well reported financial strait could leave room for more affluent clubs like Real Madrid to pounce.
