Arsenal are reportedly set to battle European heavyweights Real Madrid for the signing of Palmeiras centre-back Vitor Reis, according to The Athletic.
Europe’s elite chase Vitor Reis
The 18-year-old has attracted significant interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, including the Gunners and Los Blancos.
Despite only recently making his professional debut, the teenager has impressed with his performances, drawing comparisons to Brazilian stars Marquinhos and Eder Militao.
Both Arsenal and Real Madrid have made preliminary inquiries about Reis' availability, but Palmeiras are determined to hold onto their prized asset.
The Brazilian club recently extended the younger’s contract until 2028, with a €100 million release clause, and hope he will remain with them until after the 2025 Club World Cup.
While Mikel Arteta’s side have a strong defensive lineup with Gabriel and William Saliba, the prospect of adding a talent like Reis is understandably tempting.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, are in greater need of defensive reinforcements, with David Alaba recovering from a long-term injury, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with Militao and Antonio Rudiger as his first-team centre-back options.
Who else is interested in Vitor Reis?
Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona are also reportedly monitoring the defender’s situation, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle in the future.
