Returning Eugine Asike coy about Tusker's title chances
Tusker FC defender Eugene Asike is coy about the side’s title chances this season after returning to the club on a short-term contract.
Asike played a vital part in helping the side deliver two back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022 (annulled) before he left for Swedish side IF Karlstrad in 2022 but has since returned to Tusker.
Speaking to Pulse Sports on whether his return would help the side make amends for their near-miss last season where they fell short on both the title and the FKF Cup at the very last hurdle, Asike chose to keep his cards close to his chest.
“I do not want to speak ahead of myself and tell you that ‘this is what we want to achieve’,” Asike said.

The towering center-back says that the focus is to gel as a unit in order to help achieve optimal performance, which is the priority of the team at the moment.
“Of course this is Tusker. We want to win the title but the focus right now cause we have a new team is just to continue getting the cohesion in, continue gathering positive results game by game.”
“Come the end of the season, you should ask me this question again and I will answer you.”
Asike has already won two league titles with Tusker, the first in 2016 when they won the double under the stewardship of Ugandan national Paul Nkata, before delivering a second as captain of the side under Robert Matano.
The 2022 title was declared null and void after the FKF committee made the decision following their reinstatement by the world football governing body FIFA after a year-long lul it imposed due to government interference in football.
Asike, an infectious character, has revealed that training with the side in efforts to secure a contract, albeit short-term, fueled his desire to keep working hard, which earned him a move back to the side.
The 29-year-old has earned three caps for Kenya, having debuted in 2012 while playing for Sofapaka.
