Roma director admits sacking ex-manager was a mistake after latest exit

AS Roma finds itself in turmoil following the departure of yet another manager, Ivan Juric, who was dismissed after just two months in charge.

Roma director Florent Ghisolfi expressed regret over the recent managerial changes, admitting that parting ways with Daniele De Rossi earlier this season may have been a mistake.

Roma’s latest loss, a 3-2 reverse at home to Bologna, marked the end of Ivan Juric’s brief stint with the club, which lasted only 53 days following his appointment on September 18.

After the final whistle, the club issued a statement announcing Juric's dismissal, while the manager himself and his staff left without addressing the media.

Ghisolfi, however, spoke candidly about the situation, acknowledging the difficult circumstances that Juric had to manage.

“We want to thank Ivan Juric, as it wasn’t an easy role for him,” Ghisolfi told DAZN, adding, “He had a very challenging situation from the start, and we appreciate his and his staff’s hard work. However, we now need to reassess, reflect calmly, and make the best decision for the club’s future.”

Reflecting on Roma’s turbulent season, Ghisolfi admitted that the decision to part ways with club icon Daniele De Rossi may have been premature.

De Rossi, who signed a three-year contract with the club and had new players brought in over the summer, was let go to make way for Juric. In hindsight, Ghisolfi acknowledged that this choice may have contributed to the club’s struggles.

“History would suggest that sacking De Rossi was a mistake,” Ghisolfi confessed, adding, “All we can do now is take responsibility for the situation, both as a club and alongside the players, to bring Roma back on track.”

Several managers have been linked with the recently vacated Roma post, including Roberto Mancini, Graham Potter, and ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, but Ghisolfi remained cautious about discussing the club's next steps.
