Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr have officially lost the Saudi Professional League title to Al-Ittihad after failing to beat Al-Ettifaq today.

The defeat made it mathematically impossible to overtake the champions with only one league game left to play this season.

The 37-year-old joined Faris Najd in January when the Marsool Park team led the league table and was primed to bring economic and sporting success.

Although the Portuguese has been a marketing hit without a doubt, he has failed to deliver sporting success, as he will finish his debut season trophyless.

How Al-Nassr lost the league title

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner's team needed to beat Al-Ettifaq away from home to stay within three points of the league leaders entering the season's final game.

They went behind in the first-half after a Youssouf Niakate strike, but Luis Gustavo gave the visitors the equaliser in the 56th minute.

The Brazilian midfielder thought he gave the Knights the lead in the 84th minute, but VAR had other ideas. The game ended in a draw, and Al-Nassr mathematically crashed out of the title race.

This means they will finish the season trophyless after getting knocked out of the Cup as well

The ex-Manchester United forward made the statement in 2019 during an interview with ace broadcaster Piers Morgan.
