Kipchumba Murkomen has been nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports by President William Ruto, according to the list announced on Wednesday afternoon.

This move follows a significant cabinet reshuffle that saw the dissolution of the previous cabinet amidst anti-Finance Bill protests and allegations of widespread corruption.

Murkomen, the former Senator for Elgeyo-Marakwet County, is set to succeed Ababu Namwamba, who has held the position for the past two years.

Namwamba's tenure ended abruptly as part of the President's efforts to address public outcry and restore confidence in the government.

Murkomen's nomination comes after he, along with other Cabinet Secretaries, was left jobless two weeks ago due to the cabinet dissolution.

His return to the political forefront marks a new chapter in his career, reflecting President Ruto's trust in his capabilities to drive key youth and sports initiatives.

The National Assembly will now vet Murkomen before his official appointment, should Parliament approve his nomination.

The vetting process will scrutinize his qualifications, vision, and plans for the ministry.

He was reelected for a third term in the August 9th, 2022 General Elections on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, demonstrating his enduring popularity and political acumen.

In addition to his extensive political experience, Murkomen boasts impressive academic credentials.
