Rwanda 1-1 Lesotho: Amavubi fail to capitalize on Nigeria's misfortune

Rwanda's national football team, the Amavubi, played out a 1-1 draw against Lesotho in a crucial World Cup 2026 Qualifier match at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

The Matchday 6 encounter in Group C result was not beneficial to either team in their hopes of clinching a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

There were no goals scored in the first half as both sides defended well.

Rwanda would take the lead in the 56th minute through Jojea Kwizera to give the home side the advantage.

However the crocodiles of Lesotho, known for their resilience, fought back and managed to equalize in the 82nd minute through midfielder Lehlohonolo Fothoane.

The result is a blow to Rwanda's hopes of climbing the group table, especially as the Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

For Lesotho, the draw is a hard-fought result on the road, keeping them in contention despite their lower ranking in the group.
