Scandalous weekend for ex-Gor Mahia players at Zanaco as Otieno, Were dealt blow with Zesco
It was a mixed weekend for Harambee Stars footballers playing in Zambia, as some tasted victory while others had to make do with draws and painful defeats at the weekend.
Here is a recap of how all Kenyan footballers fared in the Zambian top flight league this weekend:
Mufulira Wanderers 5-0 Zanaco
Itt was not a good week for John Otieno and Dennis Ng’ang’a, two immediate former Gor Mahia players as their club Zanaco were humiliated by Mufulira Wanderers 5-0 on Saturday.
Ng’ang’a did not take part in the game, but Otieno started it and will want to forget this result very quickly.
Goals from Clive Biyeta , Evans Chisanga and a brace by Patson Kwataine put the home side in front at the break, before Chesianga scored his second and Zesco’s fifth right after the break to give them all the three points.
ZESCO United 1-1 Konkola Blades
Elsewhere, Ian Otieno and Jesse Jackson Were were dealt a blow in their quest for the MTN Super League title ZESCO United were held to a 1-1 draw at mid-table Konkola Blades, having let a lead slip.
Lindo Mkhonta had scored for ZESCO in the 41st minute, but Victor Mubanga equalised for Konkola, meaning the side dropped to second place with Otieno’s former employers Red Arrows claiming top spot.
Otieno played the full 90 minutes between the sticks, while Were made his first appearance for the club since returning as a substitute in the 66th minute.
NAPSA STARS 1-0 Kabwe Warriors
Elsewhere, David ‘Calabar’ Owino’s NAPSA Stars completed a 1-0 victory over 10-man Kabwe Warriors as Leonard Mulenga scored the only goal.
Boster Siyoma's well-placed pass found Leonard Mulenga, whose thunderbolt strike in the 43rd minute shattered the deadlock, propelling NAPSA Stars to a 1-0 lead.
Odhiambo started the game on the bench and failed to come on as a substitute.
