Despite reports of Joash Onyango handing in a transfer request, Simba SC have denied the claims, reiterating that the experienced defender is committed to the club.

The former Gor Mahia center-back has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following his sub-standard performances that have proved costly on some occasions.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi Communications Manager Ahmed Ally dismissed rumours that Joash had submitted a transfer request, revealing that the defender still has a year on his current contract.

“There were reports that Joash Onyango wrote a letter requesting to leave the club but up till now we have not received a letter from Joash, he is working professionally and still has one year left on his contract.

Joash Onyango is still a Simba player despite reports earlier in the season that he wanted to leave the club,” said Ally in an interview with About Bongo TV.

Simba are however expected to overhaul their squad in the off-season transfer window following another trophyless campaign with a clear-out and new signings expected.

According to reports from Tanzania, Simba are eying Rwandan defender Thierry Manzi to bolster their center-back options ahead of next season.

Manzi, who is currently in the books of AS Kigali in the Rwandan Premier League, has previously played for Rayon Sport under current Simba head coach Robertinho.

Onyango on the other hand has been linked with a return back to Gor Mahia and Tanzanian outfit Singida Big Stars.
