'Special for Ngumoha to score' - Slot hails 16-year-old Nigeria-eligible youngster

The Premier League match between Newcastle and Liverpool on matchday two was an incredible spectacle.

The Reds went up 2-0, only for the 10-man Magpies to level the score. In the end, it was Rio Ngoumoa who became the hero for his team, sealing a 2-3 victory in the 90+10th minute.

The 16-year-old forward came on as a substitute for Cody Gakpo in stoppage time and instantly became the star of the match. The English footballer also became Liverpool's youngest-ever goalscorer at 16 years and 361 days old.

Speaking after the game, Slot was full of praise for Ngumoha, as reported by Sportal, "Newcastle came close to a complete turnaround, but we held on, with Alisson, Van Dijk, and Konaté helping us through those difficult moments.

"Once we weathered the storm, I was able to bring on Ngumoha and Elliott. Of course, it's special for him to score at a moment like that.

"We know what it's like, because last year we conceded a 3-3 equaliser in the 89th minute at this same ground. This time, we were the lucky ones, finding the winner at the death," stated Arne Slot in the press conference.

"You need a winning mentality to fight in this hostile environment and be competitive until the very end. It's one thing to win and another to be competitive, and we were competitive because we showed we have the necessary mindset," the Dutch manager concluded.
