Stanley Nwabali: Super Eagles goalkeeper named Man of the Match, hails teammates for penalty AFCON heroics against South Africa

Stanley Nwabali, the hero of Nigeria's penalty shootout, was eager to direct plaudits from himself to his teammates after leading the Super Eagles to the CAF AFCON championship.

After a 1-1 draw in Bouake on Wednesday night, Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 on penalties with to two important saves by Nwabali, who also won Man of the Match honors.

Nigeria's team spirit was emphasized by the modest goalkeeper, who received significant praise for his exceptional performance in the shootout.

The Chippa United goalie gave special recognition to head coach Jose Peseiro.

When Peseiro visited him in South Africa before the AFCON, Nwabali was overjoyed and described it as a major source of encouragement.

In a competition fit for a fairy tale, Nwabali's modesty and humility have won over Nigerian supporters.
