Amidst the nail-biting tension of a penalty shootout, Nwabali showcased his prowess, making two crucial saves that ultimately sealed the Super Eagles' victory.

Former Nigerian goalkeeper Idah Peterside, speaking on Channels TV, highlighted concerns over alleged threats directed at Nwabali by South African fans, cautioning him against returning to his club, Chippa United, following his standout performance against their national team.

Taking to social media to share his sentiments, Nwabali expressed his deep-rooted passion for the game and extended a message of love to both Nigerian and South African fans.

He emphasized his enduring affection for South Africa, where he currently plies his trade, despite the intensity of competition on the pitch.

“This is a game I’m born to play. A night to remember!!! I felt every bit of it!!! Brick by brick and dreams are coming true. No love lost at all.

I still love South Africa as much as their fans love me and I love this team with all my heart,” Nwabali conveyed on his social media platform.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper made a significant move to South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Chippa United in December 2022, transitioning from Nigerian Professional Football League side Katsina United. 

With an impressive AFCON debut under his belt, Nwabali is poised to continue his stellar performance as Nigeria braces for a showdown against Côte d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 AFCON tournament.
