Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen concludes first training ahead of Ghana clash

Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has successfully concluded the first training session for the Super Eagles B team in preparation for their upcoming clash against Ghana in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

The session took place in Abuja, where the team is currently camped as they gear up for the highly anticipated match against their West African rivals.

Eguavoen appointed in September expressed optimism about the team's progress, stating, “Very impressive. Only two sessions but you could see that technically they are very good.”

He acknowledged that while the players have shown promise, there is still much work to be done to blend the squad into a cohesive unit.

“They are coming from different clubs, and we have to try to see how we can blend and make them play as one team. There’s time to do that,” he added.

The Super Eagles B team, which consists of domestic-based players, has been training rigorously as they look to build on their skills and tactics ahead of the crucial match against Ghana.

The two teams have been drawn in the same regional zone for the CHAN qualifiers, ensuring a fierce contest between the historic rivals.

The CHAN tournament itself, which exclusively features players from domestic leagues across Africa, is set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from January to February 2025.

Following this initial training window, players will return to their respective clubs for matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this weekend.

However, they are expected to regroup next week to continue their preparations for the Ghana encounter.

Eguavoen's focus will be on maintaining momentum and ensuring that players are fit and ready for what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
