Super Eagles duo Lookman and Boniface to fight for Ghana Football top award, Osimhen snubbed
Nigerian forwards Ademola Lookman and Victor Boniface have been nominated for Ghana's top football awards, while their Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen has been ignored.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta, and Boniface, who recently joined Bayer Leverkusen, have been recognised for their outstanding performances over the past season.
Lookman the Hero as Atalanta Makes History
Former RB Leipzig and Everton forward Lookman was the driving force behind Atalanta's historic UEFA Europa League run and victory.
Lookman netted a sensational hat-trick to inspire his side to a 3-0 victory over Leverkusen, who had Boniface and Nathan Tella in their ranks.
He became the first-ever player to score three goals in the final of a competitive UEFA competition.
Boniface Leads Leverkusen to Domestic Double
Despite missing three months due to injury, Boniface ended the season as Leverkusen's top scorer with 21 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
His contributions were instrumental in the Werkself's first-ever Bundesliga title and their DFB-Pokal triumph, both achieved without a single defeat.
However, Boniface and Bayer failed to claim the treble following an unbelievable performance from his compatriot Lookman in Dublin.
Ghana's Premier Football Awards
The Ghana Football Awards, now in its sixth edition, has become the pinnacle of the Ghanaian football season.
The event, which was launched at a colourful ceremony on June 12th, 2024, in Osu, Accra, according to Ghanaweb, recognises the best players and achievements in the country's football landscape.
The nomination of Lookman and Boniface for the Best African International category has come as a surprise.
However, their Super Eagles teammate, Osimhen, has been overlooked for the prestigious awards. This decision is sure to raise eyebrows among Nigerian football enthusiasts.
