Super Eagles: Peseiro gives update on Maduka Okoye's AFCON chances amid Uzoho struggles
Jose Peseiro has revealed that Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and Empoli full-back Tyrone Ebuehi are in his plans ahead of the African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.
Despite being Nigeria's first choice at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, Okoye has not started for the Super Eagles since Peseiro took the reins last year.
Francis Uzoho has been first choice under Peseiro despite the Omonia shot-stopper boasting a catalogue of comical errors in recent months.
Peseiro insists Maduka Okoye remains in his plans
Tyronne Ebuehi is another one who has found minutes hard to come by for Nigeria recently, and Peseiro insists the Empoli defender remains in his thoughts.
Speaking in an interview with Sportitalia (via TMW), the Portuguese spoke on the two players chances of making the squad
“Ebuehi and Okoye belong to the group of players we follow and are part of the list of those we normally call.
“This way, they can participate in any competition the Super Eagles play in.”
Nigeria will navigate two World Cup 2026 qualifiers next week, against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
