But the 23-year-old had already been making waves with some impressive performances for Hatayspor in his first season in the Turkish Süper Lig last season.

The former Manchester City academy graduate was a free transfer acquisition by Hatayspor last summer and operated primarily as an attacking and central midfielder.

Dele-Bashiru went on to make 37 appearances across all competitions, racking up over 3,000 minutes of action for his new side to register his most productive season ever.

In a viral video, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru joined the Super Eagles set up in style.

The new Super Eagles star demonstrated his versatility as he blended goalscoring threat with creativity and industry.

He contributed an impressive 11 goals in (8) goals and (3) assists throughout the campaign. The Nigerian international created 40 chances and maintained an 86% passing accuracy.

His dribbling ability and direct running caused plenty of problems, as he completed 71 dribbles at a brilliant 68% success rate.

Dele-Bashiru was also active defensively, to show he is not just an attacking threat, winning 22 tackles, 148 duels and making 135 recoveries.

The only blot on his copybook was a tendency to pick up cards, with six yellow cards accumulated over the season - suggesting some discipline may be required.

But overall, it was an excellent first season in Turkey for the talented midfielder. His energetic, all-action displays caught the eye of Super Eagles coach Finidi George, who has now rewarded him with his competitive debut.

If he can maintain those impressive numbers, Dele-Bashiru looks set for an extended run in the Nigeria setup ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, especially after that excellent strike against Bafana Bafana.
