Super Eagles star Osimhen deserves Player of the season award - Iconic Turkish coach declares
Sergen Yalcin, former Besiktas manager, has picked Victor Osimhen as the Turkish Super Lig Player of the Season, praising the Nigerian striker’s exceptional impact during his loan spell at Galatasaray.
Osimhen, who moved to the Turkish giants from Napoli, has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s commanding performance throughout the 2024-25 campaign, helping them clinch both the Super Lig title and the domestic cup.
The 26-year-old forward has delivered a remarkable tally of 36 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances across all competitions this season, showing his lethal finishing and playmaking ability.
His contributions have not only powered Galatasaray to domestic glory but also cemented his reputation as one of the league’s standout performers.
Yalcin, who is the first person to win the Lig as a player and coach at Besiktas, speaking to Habersarikirmizi, emphasised Osimhen’s dominance, stating, “I think the player of the season is Osimhen.”
“It is very difficult to choose players from other teams anyway. If we were to form an 11, you would get at least 6-7 players from Galatasaray. You wouldn’t just get a right back and a left back.”
Osimhen’s influence extends beyond his goal-scoring, as his work rate and leadership have galvanised Galatasaray’s squad.
His seamless adaptation to Turkish football has made him a fan favourite and a cornerstone of the team’s success.
Yalcin’s endorsement highlights the striker’s undeniable impact, with the former coach suggesting that Galatasaray’s dominance is reflected in their representation in any potential league best XI.
As the season concludes, Osimhen’s impressive performances have sparked discussions about his future, with his loan spell proving to be a resounding success. For now, Yalcin’s praise shows that the Nigerian has serious and deserved claims to the prestigious Player of the Season award following his transformative and iconic presence in the Turkish Super Lig.
