Seyi Olofinjana has revealed that unless the NFF appoints a good manager with an identity, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will continue to struggle.

The Super Eagles are in danger of missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which would be their second consecutive absence from the tournament.

Head coach Eric Chelle is facing renewed pressure due to Nigeria's struggling World Cup qualifying campaign.

The team must win their final qualifying matches against Lesotho and Benin to avoid elimination from the tournament.

Olofinjana speaks on employing a good coach

According to Olofinjana, the solution lies not just with the coach but also with the NFF, which he suggests has undermined its own appointments.

"Nigeria is one of the best footballing nations in Africa," he stated, while speaking to the Vangard. "We need a good manager, backed with proper support and respect.

“Otherwise, what happens is managers leave, or they fail and the cycle continues. Without structure, you can’t build.

“Fans end up frustrated, managers walk away and players struggle to deliver. Until there’s stability and a clear football philosophy, the Super Eagles will continue to wobble."

Nigeria's recent track record supports Olofinjana's concerns. The team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after a surprising playoff loss to Ghana.

While Chelle’s style has yielded few results, the performances have not convinced critics that the Super Eagles can compete with Africa's top teams.

The Super Eagles will face Lesotho on Friday, October 10, before hosting Benin in Uyo four days later.
