Super Schick strikes again as king Tella and Leverkusen book UEL quarters spot
Patrik Schick was the hero yet again as Bayer Leverkusen produced another stirring comeback to dramatically overturn a deficit against Qarabag and reach the Europa League quarterfinals.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that just as he did in the first leg in Baku, the Czech striker came off the bench to first equalise in the 93rd minute, before incredibly snatching a 3-2 winner in the dying seconds at the BayArena.
Tella’s Leverkusen through thanks to Schick
It capped an astonishing finale as Xabi Alonso's side overturned a 2-0 deficit on the night, and a 4-3 aggregate deficit from the first leg, to progress 5-4 on aggregate.
Nigeria's Nathan Tella watched as a spectator as Qarabag took a shock 2-0 lead on the night, playing over an hour with 10 men, to have one foot in the last eight.
But Jeremie Frimpong started the Leverkusen fightback before Schick took centre stage once more.
The 27-year-old has now scored crucial late goals in both legs to single-handedly fire the Bundesliga outfit into the quarterfinals.
It continues Schick's brilliant season in front of goal and underlines his reputation as one of Europe's most lethal marksmen.
For Leverkusen and their manager Alonso, it was another night of high drama as they came through a massive test of their character and desire.
