Tanzania began their CHAN 2024 tournament in fine fashion when they beat Burkina Faso 2-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

Abdul Hamisi Suleiman opened the scoring on the stroke of halftime through a contentious penalty before Mohamed Hussein headed in the second in the 71st minute and they stayed resolute to claim all three points for a dream start.

Following the victory, President Suluhu’s reward scheme has kicked in as she had promised the team Tsh10 million (Ksh500,000) for every goal scored at the group stage and quarter-finals.

Tanzania Government Hands Over Reward in Cash

On Sunday, the team was rewarded in cash with the Tsh20 million (Ksh1 million) for their two goals as part of their motivation ahead of their next matches against Mauritania, Madagascar and Central African Republic.

There is much more waiting for them if they make it to the last four as Tsh20 million (Ksh1 million) will go to them for every goal scored at the semi-finals.

That will be in addition to Tsh200 million (Ksh10 million) that the team will receive if they make it to the semi-final while if they reach the final, Tsh500 million (Ksh25 million) will be waiting for them.

If Taifa Stars pull off the unexpected and win CHAN 2024, President Suluhu has promised them Tsh1 billion (Ksh50 million).
