Taraba Sports Council trains Secondary school students

The Taraba Sports Council has trained secondary school students in the state on the importance and basic knowledge of Badminton.

The three-day training was held at the indoor sports hall of the Jolly Nyame Stadium.

The schools' game masters and game mistresses also benefited from the training.

The mission is to encourage students to participate in Badminton - Shitta

The Taraba State Director of Sports Council, George Shitta, revealed that the brain behind the training is to help the students get involved in badminton.

Shitta is a board member of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), and he led six other badminton instructors to the training and taught the students and teachers the theory and practical aspects of badminton.

He added that the training will encourage students to value the importance of combining sports and education.

According to Shitta, the training will help the students develop into future badminton players who will represent the state and Nigeria in international competitions.

Meanwhile, he appealed to the Taraba State government to give more attention to sports in the state.

80 students benefitted from the training

Nothing less than 80 students from 18 secondary schools in Taraba state benefitted from the training.

Badminton training in Taraba

The training was part of BFN's two-year grassroots development program, organized by Taraba Badminton and powered by the Community Sport and Educational Development Initiative (CSED).

CSED Initiative donated 60 badminton rackets, 18 tubes of shuttlecocks, and 17 nets, which were later distributed to the schools that attended the training event.
