Teen Cranes Make Massive Progress Ahead of Zimbabwe World Cup Qualifier Clash
Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team players Jennifer Onyango and Zainabu Birungi have voiced their optimism as the squad ramps up preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The team, known as the Teen Cranes, began their training camp on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
Under the leadership of head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes, the sessions are designed to build team chemistry, evaluate player fitness, and refine tactical strategies for the crucial matches ahead.
Speaking after their first training session, Coach Botes expressed satisfaction with the players’ application and early signs of cohesion.
"We are happy to start our first session. The training looked good, with a good combination of play. We are very pleased with what the players can do in terms of decision-making," she said.
The South African tactician emphasised that the formidable squad will be looking to work on improving intensity and sharpening their performance under pressure.
"We have good players here, but we are going to fine-tune them to play at the highest level, at higher intensity, and be able to make better decisions under pressure, because there will be pressure," she added.
