'That 25th Grand Slam will come' - Tennis star Ana Ivanovic tells Novak Djokovic
Ana Ivanovic is currently in London, where she attended the women's final between Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova on Saturday afternoon.
This week, she'll also be watching the men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
What Ivanovic said about Djokovic
Ahead of the last Wimbledon match of the year, she spoke with Sport Klub, revealing her thoughts on the performance of her childhood friend, Novak Djokovic.
"I believe that 25th Grand Slam title will come. It's incredible how well he's playing at his age. I'm so happy for him, and I'm disappointed I won't be watching him in the final. I'm sure he'll be back to win another major tournament soon," said Ivanovic, via Sportal.
She also mentioned running into Nenad Zimonjic at the complex, and discussing the possibility of playing mixed doubles together in the future.
"I just ran into Nenad Zimonjic, and we were talking about whether we should play mixed doubles together next year, which would be nice. We actually played a match on one of these courts years ago. I'm much more drawn to the idea now than I was in the first few years after retiring. I have the desire to get back on court and play again."
She watched Iga Swiatek's dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova, securing Swiatek's sixth Grand Slam title.
"The biggest thing missing is the rivalry. If you look back ten or fifteen years, there were so many top players — the Williams sisters, Sharapova, Wozniacki, Jelena Jankovic, Kuznetsova… and you always knew that from the quarterfinals onwards, the matches would be phenomenal.
"We're missing that a bit now. We often see players in the finals and semifinals who are there for the first time. That's something the new generation needs to develop to make women's tennis popular again," Ivanovic commented.
Ivanovic won one Grand Slam title in her career — the French Open in 2008 — and reached the world number one ranking. Recently, she's been in the spotlight due to her divorce from Bastian Schweinsteiger.
