The Best FIFA Awards 2023: Mikel Obi, Mercy Akide headline panel of experts

Nigerian football legends Mikel Obi and Mercy Akide, have been selected to the panel of experts for the 2023 FIFA Best Football Awards.

Mikel Obi is one of Nigeria's greatest-ever midfielders, making 91 appearances for the Super Eagles while enjoying a hugely successful 11 years at Chelsea.

Akide was a huge part of the growth and success of the Super Falcons, the retired striker left a lasting legacy in Women's football.

Akide is on the list of 11 members for the women’s category, while Mikel is among the 11 for the men’s category.

Other Africans on the list include Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan.
