They have the strongest squad — Thierry Henry picks UCL winners
Thierry Henry has delivered a bold verdict, declaring that his former club Arsenal have assembled the best squad in Europe this season.
After Arsenal's 2-0 Champions League win over Athletic Club on Tuesday, Henry argued that Mikel Arteta's side are now equipped to compete on all fronts.
Arsenal have started the domestic season with three wins from four games and will host Manchester City on Sunday.
Henry backs Arsenal's strong squad to win trophies this season
According to Henry, the Gunners must be favourites thanks to their incredible depth.
“Right now I will say that nobody has a team as deep as Arsenal, in terms of the quality they can have,” he said.
“Some teams can give them a good run for the starting eleven, but if you look at the team itself it’s almost two teams.”
Henry emphasized the quality of the players not on the field in Spain.
“When you see who is on the bench tonight and you’re still missing [Martin] Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus… when you look at that the team is well-equipped to play in all competitions.”
"Even in the Champions League you look at Paris Saint-Germain, they’re struggling also with injuries after international duty and a bit before.”
He concluded by placing the pressure firmly on Arteta and the squad. “But now let’s all be honest, it’s a must this year to win something. It’s a must, you can’t hide.
I do think it is going to be a battle between Liverpool and Arsenal, you can’t write off Man City yet, they’re trying new things with new players.”
