‘This can be a little advantage’ - Rohr reveals Benin’s edge over Super Eagles
The two sides prepare for a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo this Tuesday as they seek a ticket to the tournament.
The Squirrels currently sit atop Group C, and Rohr, who formerly managed the Super Eagles, has highlighted that his team's destiny is firmly in their own hands.
This comes after Benin secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Rwanda on Friday and the Super Eagles’ narrow 2-1 win against Lesotho, while South Africa were held to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe.
What Rohr said
Speaking ahead of the match, Rohr, who coached Nigeria for five years, expressed confidence in his current team's prospects.
"We still have to do something great in Uyo," Rohr stated in a conversation with journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
"We have lost two players for the match against Nigeria as a result of a second yellow card. But all is possible for the three teams: South Africa, Benin, and Nigeria."
"We now have the decision to win in Uyo in our hands. This can be a little advantage. But we will see," he added.
For Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup, they will need to secure a win by a two-goal margin and hope the other result goes in their favour.
The upcoming match in Uyo promises to be less of a game and more of a battle and Eric Chelle and his squad must be prepared for a fight.
