'Those who don't follow them will suffer' - Mourinho warns star signing Durán after missing start of preseason
Fenerbahçe arrived in Portugal on Tuesday for their pre-season training camp in Albufeira.
However, Jhon Durán failed to show up for the flight and subsequently missed the start of pre-season. His absence drew criticism from manager José Mourinho.
Mourinho slams Duran
In a press conference, quoted by CNN, via Abola, the Portuguese manager deemed the Colombian forward's actions "disrespectful": "There are clear rules here, and those who don't follow them will suffer the consequences."
Durán was considered a major signing for Fenerbahçe, despite joining on loan from Al Nassr. The Colombian scored 12 goals in 18 appearances for Cristiano Ronaldo's side. Prior to that, he impressed at Aston Villa, who then sold him to the Saudi club for €77 million last January.
This isn't the first time Jhon Durán has made headlines for the wrong reasons. In a World Cup 2026 qualifier for Colombia against Peru last June, Durán was substituted at halftime amidst rumours of a heated exchange with the coaching staff.
While any physical altercation was denied, he was left out of the squad for the following match against Argentina.
During his time at Aston Villa, Durán also expressed his displeasure at being substituted and clashed with manager Unai Emery on several occasions.
It remains to be seen whether Durán will join Fenerbahçe in Portugal, where they are scheduled to face four opponents: Portimonense (July 17th), União de Leiria (July 20th), Al Ittihad (July 23rd), and Benfica (July 26th).
