Chelsea’s struggles in front of goals are well publicised, with the Blues level on goals scored with Fulham and Aston Villa among teams in the top half of the table.

The Blues have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only recognised number nine in their squad, but the former Arsenal man has been out in the cold since February.

Chelsea's goalscoring woes

In Aubameyang’s absence, Kai Havertz has played as a false nine but the German has not helped Chelsea’s cause.

With the Blues struggling for goals, Hoddle has urged the team to go for a proven striker like Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen is the darling of so many clubs in Europe, with the Nigerian likely to spark a bidding war among Europe’s best teams.

The Nigeria international has scored 25 goals in 29 appearances for Napoli this season, including 21 in Serie A, more than any other player.

His other four goals are in five Champions League matches. Hoddle, who watched Osimhen rip Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, insists he is the player Chelsea should sign.

Although the former England international believes Chelsea are likely going to face opposition in their quest to sign the ex-Lille attacker, he believes Osimhen will solve their goalscoring woes.

“Without a doubt, he’s [Osimhen]  number one, but there are a few clubs after him,” Hoddle told Premier League Productions via Football 365.

“But if you put him in a Chelsea shirt he will score a load of goals,” he added.

It is not the first time Hoddle has praised Osimhen after singing his praises following Napoli’s 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Osimhen still has two years left on his contract at Napoli, having joined the club from Lille for a club-record fee of €75.00m in 2020.
