SC Villa Captain David Owori Succumbs to Injuries Following Violent Attack
Ugandan football has been plunged into mourning following the tragic passing of SC Villa captain David Owori, who has succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal attack by unknown assailants near his residence in Makindye.
The versatile right-back was initially admitted to Case Clinic in Kampala in critical condition following the assault on Tuesday night.
Early reports circulating on social media erroneously suggested that the Ugandan defender had been involved in a motorcycle taxi (boda boda) accident.
However, club management quickly moved to clarify the situation, confirming that Owori had been physically ambushed by thugs.
Addressing the public initially via social media, SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye confirmed the severity of the skipper's condition: "Our SC Villa Captain David Owori was attacked last night near his home in Makindye at around 8 p.m. by unknown thugs," Kasingye stated.
"He’s critically injured and admitted at Case Clinic. Our President will be addressing the press about this developing story. Get well soon, son. Our prayers."
Official Club Statement Confirming Passing
Despite medical efforts, the club officially confirmed the heartbreaking news of his passing in an official statement released on August 5, 2026: "SC Villa Football Club is devastated to confirm the death of its Club Captain, David Owori, following a brutal attack by unknown individuals.
“The Club commiserates with David's family, teammates, friends, supporters, and the entire football fraternity during this painful moment. David was a valuable player, leader, and servant of the game whose loss is deeply felt by both the Club and the nation.
"SC Villa undertakes to stand with the family and to ensure that David is accorded a decent and dignified send-off. We also call upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime. This senseless act has robbed the Club and the country of a committed captain and a promising sportsman, and it must not go unanswered."
David Owori’s Legacy at SC Villa
David Owori was one of the most experienced and dependable figures within the SC Villa squad. Currently in his second spell with the 17-time Uganda Premier League champions, he had firmly established himself as one of the top right-backs in the league, earning widespread respect across the country for his work rate, professionalism, and leadership on and off the pitch.
The devastating loss comes as SC Villa prepares to face Maroons FC in the second leg of the FUFA Super 8 tournament this Friday at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
Defender Andrew Okumu is expected to step up and lead the side as the Jogoos family and Ugandan football fraternity rally together to honour their fallen captain.
