UEL: German champions Boniface and Tella set for semifinal date with Mourinho's ex AS Roma
Nigerian internationals Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella have a massive Europa League semifinal clash to look forward to after their club Bayer Leverkusen were paired against Italian giants AS Roma.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the two Super Eagles stars will come up against Daniele De Rossi's rejuvenated Roma side in the last four of Europe's second-tier club competition.
Boniface and Tella’s Leverkusen get Roma
Boniface was instrumental in Leverkusen's progression, netting a crucial goal to help the Bundesliga outfit overcome a tough test against West Ham United in the quarterfinals.
For Roma, who have experienced a revival under caretaker manager De Rossi following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, they booked their semifinal ticket with an emphatic thrashing of Serie A rivals AC Milan, who had Samuel Chukwueze on parade.
The tie will see two of the most exciting young coaches left in the competition go head-to-head as De Rossi hopes to end Xabi Alonso’s remarkable unbeaten streak.
Boniface and Tella will be keen to play leading roles in trying to end Leverkusen's 30-year wait for a major European trophy, with the club's last continental success coming in the 1988 UEFA Cup.
