Ghana’s Black Stars will be without several key players when they face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the Unity Cup 2025, scheduled for May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.

Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Randy Abbey, confirmed that injuries and ongoing club commitments will limit the availability of some first-team regulars for the encounter.

“There are quite a number of players who are injured,” Abbey revealed in an interview with 3Sports (via Joy Online).

He continued, “There are a few players who are also engaged in qualifying games for Europe, and so their clubs won’t release them. Mind you, this period is outside the FIFA free period.”

He further explained that some leagues are still in session, which complicates the selection process.

“For those whose leagues will still be in session, and who are still in contention, they might not be available, plus the injured players,” he added.

The four-nation Unity Cup features Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, with the winners of the semi-final between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars set to face either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago in the final on May 31.

The tournament serves as key preparation for both West African sides ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns resuming in September.

The last meeting between the two African giants took place in March 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco. The Super Eagles won 2-1 in that friendly encounter, with goals from Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman sealing the win, while Jordan Ayew pulled one back for Ghana in stoppage time.

Ghana will be looking to bounce back from their disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
