URA FC Appoint New Head Coach After League Struggles
URA FC has officially named Jimmy Kintu Mwera as their new head coach, filling the position left vacant after the club opted not to renew Hussein Mbalangu's contract.
The appointment comes as the four-time league champions look to rebuild following a historically poor season.
The team finished 11th in the Premier League standings with just 31 points, securing only five wins across 30 matches.
URA FC Appoint New Coach
In an official statement, the club expressed its enthusiasm for the new hire. "URA FC is delighted to welcome Jimmy Kintu Mwera as Head Coach," the announcement read.
"A CAF A Licensed tactician with a proven track record in player development and modern football, Kintu joins the Tax Collectors ready for the challenge ahead."
Kintu has signed a two-year contract with the club. He will be joined by Godfrey Magoba, who has been appointed as the First Assistant Coach, also on a two-year renewable deal.
The club highlighted the experience the new coaching duo brings, stating, "The duo arrives from Express FC, where they served in the same respective roles, bringing with them a wealth of experience, modern coaching expertise, and a proven track record in player development and team management."
Hussein Mbalangu Stint at URA FC
Hussein Mbalangu had a challenging, short-term stint as the URA FC head coach after taking over mid-season from Alex Isabirye in December, 2025.
While he managed to steady the ship in cup competitions by guiding the Tax Collectors to the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, they were ultimately eliminated by SC Villa.
Unfortunately, his domestic league campaign heavily stuttered, resulting in URA FC finishing in an underwhelming 11th place with just 31 points, marking the worst league finish in the club's history.
Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, the club’s leadership decided against offering him a permanent contract. His brief tenure officially came to an end in June 2026 when his short-term deal expired.
