USSSA Awards: Kitende dominates schools awards, named School of the Year

St. Mary's Secondary School, Kitende (SMASK), was named the finest sporting school of the year at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Excellence Awards.

From dominating sport in the country, SMASK managed similar feats in East Africa as well as the larger East and Central Africa (CECAFA), clinching the biggest accolade of the night at the awarding ceremony held on Friday at the Imperial Royale Hotel.

Kitende won the USSSA Boys' football championship earlier this year as they beat St Henry's Kitovu to the trophy.

They went on to lift the same trophy in the East African Schools games held in Huye, Rwanda.

The Lawrence Mulindwa-owned further lifted the CECAFA Zonal CAF African Schools Championship for the U15s to qualify for the continental games slated for next year.

In the other sporting disciplines, Kitende is the champion for netball, both in the country and in East Africa.

They are also the Girls' basketball champions in the 3x3 and 5x5 in the country and East Africa.

Meanwhile, at the awards gala, their players Winnie Morgan Akello and Mary Amaniyo were named the finest players in the 3x3 and 5x5 categories, respectively.

Another of the stars, Aisha Nakuya, was named the Most Valuable Player in netball for 2023.

To round off a near-perfect night for Kitende, Viola Grace Kyolaba was named the Female Games Teacher of the Year.
