Spanish football league LaLiga has reacted to the ugly incidents between Valencia fans and Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior at the weekend.
Vinicius was the subject of racist abuse from the home fans during a highly tense LaLiga week 35 clash between Valencia and former champions Real Madrid.
As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, there was a 10-minute break after the Brazilian forward alerted the centre referee about the abuse from the fans at the Mestalla.
LaLiga reacts to Vinicius' abuse
Following a series of reactions that have taken place as a result of the racist abuse, LaLiga has now released a statement.
According to the league’s governing body, an investigation of the incident will take place as LaLiga has moved to get all available evidence needed.
“ LaLiga have requested all available images in order to investigate what took place,” LaLiga said in a statement.
“Once the investigation has been completed, if any hate crime is identified, LaLiga will take the appropriate legal action.”
“LaLiga will also investigate footage of racist insults allegedly directed at Vinicius Jr. from outside the Estadio de Mestalla,” the statement added.
LaLiga also defended itself after a furious war of words between the President and Vinicius, who accused the body of doing nothing about racism.
“LaLiga has been proactive in the face of all racist incidents against Real Madrid CF player Vinicius Jr. Accordingly, LaLiga has filed reports on nine occasions in the last two seasons with the RFEF Competition Committee, the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport, the Hate Prosecutor's Office, and the Courts,” the statement concluded.
