Vincent Kompany labels Patrick Vieira an 'overachiever', hits out at Crystal Palace over Arsenal legend's sack
Vincent Kompany has recently spoken out regarding the sacking of Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira.
The 46-year-old Frenchman was fired from his role as head coach of The Eagles before their match against Premier League leaders Arsenal.
It is understood that the Palace board had seemingly lost faith in him for being ‘too soft’.
However, Palace’s decision to relieve the Arsenal legend of his duties has not gone down well with his counterpart in the English championship.
Vincent Kompany speaks out following Patrick Vieira’s sacking as Crystal Palace manager
Speaking about the sacking, Manchester City legend and Burnley coach Vincent Kompany said, “I think if you’re overachieving, which is what they(Crystal Palace) are doing, then I think whoever’s making the decision has got to come forward say that I made the decision because at the end of the season, we are going to be safe because of that decision.
“But actually. what you’ve done is taken out a manager who’s overachieving, no matter which way you wanna turn it. And that side of it, I think is a problem in general in football.”
🗣️ "It doesn't sit well with me. You've taken out a manager who is overachieving."

Why was Patrick Vieira sacked?
Vieira was sacked after Palace’s winless run of 12 games since the start of 2023.
The results saw Crystal Palace drop out of the top half of the table into 12th.
The winless streak included a 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup which saw The Eagles crash out of the cup competition.
A statement from the club’s chief Steve Parrish read: “It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made — but we’re now in a precarious league position, change is necessary”.

With Patrick Vieira’s sacking, Crystal Palace are back in the market for a new manager.
With 11 games left in the season, Palace will be hoping the new coach will steer The Eagles away from relegation as only five points separate 12th place and 20th place in the Premier League table.
Palace return to action on Sunday, March 19, when they travel to the Emirates to play the Premier League leaders Arsenal.
