We are rising — Proud Zimbabwe declare after doing Nigeria favour against South Africa
Zimbabwe defied the odds to hold South Africa to a goalless draw in Durban, a result that could prove vital for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the race for World Cup qualification.
Despite going down to 10 men, the Warriors showed remarkable resilience and determination to frustrate Bafana Bafana, who needed a win to strengthen their grip on Group C.
The draw leaves South Africa second in the standings with 15 points, just one ahead of Nigeria, who remain firmly in contention to qualify if they can defeat Benin Republic in their final group game.
Following the spirited performance, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) released a proud statement celebrating the team’s fighting spirit:
The Warriors of Zimbabwe stood tall in Durban, matching Bafana Bafana stride for stride in a fierce World Cup qualifier. A game of pride, passion, and discipline. Even with ten men, Zimbabwe refused to fall. The message is clear: Zimbabwe is rising again. #Warriors #TeamZimbabwe pic.twitter.com/747wV6uF4Y

Zimbabwe may be bottom of the group with just 5 points, but their result and performance against South Africa bodes well for the future.
Meanwhile, Benin are top of the group with 17 points, and the game against Nigeria in Uyo could carry huge consequences for the rest of the group.
