The French forward, who joined the Premier League champions from Eintracht Frankfurt last month, featured in the second of two back-to-back victories against the La Liga side, a 4-1 win followed by a 3-2 triumph under new head coach Arne Slot.

Ekitike wasted no time making an impact, providing the assist for Mohamed Salah’s opening goal in the second game, and showcased flashes of the talent that earned him the No.22 shirt at Anfield.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the match, the 22-year-old reflected on his first experience playing in front of the Anfield faithful.

He said, “Obviously, I am here now for more than one week, so I’m still trying to find connections with the others… I enjoy playing with them. Outside the pitch, they are good guys also, so I take pleasure in playing with them.”

Despite a promising debut, Ekitike was quick to acknowledge areas for improvement in his performance, “We have some little things to fix to get better. Even me with the ball, I knew I could do better today. But I really enjoy playing with them and I’m sure we’re going to make really good things this season.”

The forward expressed his excitement about the season ahead and Liverpool’s ambitions across all competitions.

“We have a group of competitors, and we want to win everything. We’re going to give 100 per cent, I’m sure. And I'm also, I’m going to give 100 per cent to win because I’m here to win.”

As the 2025/26 campaign approaches, Liverpool fans will be hoping Ekitike’s flair and drive can add another dimension to the Reds' attack, especially alongside proven stars like Salah and Darwin Núñez.
