We want this kind of player - Amorim on what Manchester United need
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is pushing for a more youthful, high-character squad rebuild after Heaven's emergence, which could signal a new direction for the Red Devils as they look to reshape their squad following an inconsistent season.
The 18-year-old centre-back, who arrived from Arsenal during the January transfer window, was handed his first start since mid-March after returning from an injury layoff.
Positioned on the left side of the backline, Heaven impressed with a composed performance that helped United register their first Premier League clean sheet in over six weeks with their last coming in a goalless draw against Manchester City on April 6.
Before being substituted in the second half for veteran Jonny Evans, the young defender delivered an assured performance.
What Amorim said
Speaking after the match, Amorim was quick to acknowledge both Heaven's maturity and the role of technical director Jason Wilcox in securing his signature.
“Once again, Jason Wilcox is doing a great job,” Amorim told MUTV.
He continued, “Bringing Ayden... it is these kinds of players that we need because he shows a lot of character and quality after a big injury. We want this kind of player.”
Heaven has now made six appearances for United, including three starts.
