'I blame Arteta' - Reactions as Arsenal fans give up after major slip in title race
Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw against West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, April 16, in the Premier League.
Arsenal started the contest brightly wasting no time in declaring their intentions to the hosts.
Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in the 7th minute to give the Gunners the lead in the encounter.
West Ham could not find an answer to the Gunners’ swift and precise attack as Arteta’s men continued to carve the Hammers' defence open at will.
The travelling fans soon had cause to celebrate once more as Martin Odegaard fired home three minutes later to give Arsenal a 0-2 lead.
However, the Hammers roared back into the contest in the 33rd minute as David Moyes men grabbed a goalscoring opportunity with both hands after the hosts were awarded a penalty.
Said Benrahma stepped up and fired past Aaron Ramsdale to pull one goal back as both teams headed into the break with the Gunner’s holding on to a slender adavantage.
Second Half
Arsenal were awarded a chance to restore their two-goal advantage in the second period after a penalty call from David Coote.
However, Bukayo Saka missed from the spot to deny the visitors an opportunity to double their lead once more.
Arteta’s men would eventually be made to pay for that missed golden opportunity as Jarrod Bowen finished off clinically two minutes later.
The league leaders sought to prevent the same fate that befell them last weekend when they were held against Liverpool at Anfield having gone two goals up early in the game.
But it was not to be for Arteta’s men as they fell short once more on the road by full-time a it finished 2-2 at the London Stadium.
The result has now seen Arsenal’s lead at the top of the summit reduce to just four points behind defending champions and second-placed Man City.
Social Media Reactions
Following the disappointing result for Mikel Arteta’s men again, here’s how fans have reacted on social media.
Same as every year. With our first team we can compete with anyone but any injuries and the drop-off is painful. That falls on Arteta too.

You need a goal to win the game and you’re bringing on Jorginho for Gabriel Jesus? What was Arteta cooking😭 pic.twitter.com/i46k1asAwZ

The title race, for me, is over. Mistakes made, lessons learnt. Thanks for the good run, Arsenal. Arteta-ball has come to stay. Next season, we ball harder. Come On Arsenal. 💪 pic.twitter.com/vqjPlLLzAK

3.5 years where Arsenal hadn’t given away a 2 goal lead under Arteta. Done it twice in 7 days now
