"What happened in Marseille could happen anywhere" - Rabiot opens up on Marseille's scandal
The midfielder's playing time at French side Marseille came to an end following an altercation with some players in the team.
Following the incident, he left the French team and signed for AC Milan, with Massimiliano Allegri being a key factor in his decision to join the Rossoneri.
What Rabiot said
The altercation involved a physical confrontation with teammate Jonathan Rowe. Both players subsequently left the club, and they are set to face each other this Sunday, as Rowe has since moved to Bologna.
"I'm ready and in good condition. I'm here to help. If the coach plays me, I'll do everything I can to help the team win. Allegri and I have been through a lot together.
"I felt comfortable with him from the start at Juventus. He has a winning mentality. He lives and breathes football, just like I do. After I left Juventus, we continued to talk, we even met up," Rabiot stated, officially presented as a Milan player today, via Sportal.
He recounted the circumstances of his departure from Marseille: "Everything happened in the final days of the transfer window. I spoke with Allegri when I arrived in Milan, but we had been in contact before that. The coach called me after what happened in Marseille. He explained the project to me, and then things moved quickly."
"Maignan spoke highly of Milan. Theo (Hernandez) also told me I'd feel good here because it's like a big family. Allegri has worked here before and is very attached to the club. I wouldn't say they convinced me, because we're talking about a big club, but it's important to hear the opinions of those who are here or have been here. I'm sure I made the right decision," the French international added.
He further stated that he has no issues with not playing in European competitions this season. "Playing for Milan is more important than playing in the Champions League with a team that can't go far. I preferred to come here and be part of a strong team. I could have gone to a team participating in the Champions League, but Allegri's project convinced me to come here."
When asked about Jonathan Rowe, whom he might face on Sunday, Rabiot replied: "There's nothing special. We texted each other after he went to Bologna and I arrived in Milan. We'll see each other on Sunday at San Siro.
"It will be good to see him. He's a good person. What happened in Marseille can happen anywhere, but it doesn't change our relationship. I'll be happy to see him, and I'm sure he feels the same way. That episode between us is in the past."
