'When last?' - Reactions as Chelsea fans finally find cause to smile after victory against Leeds
Chelsea recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win against Leeds United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday evening, March 4, 2023.
The Blues were hoping for their second Premier League win of the New Year, having failed to win any of their last six games in all competitions.
Graham Potter’s men started very brightly creating better chances in the opening 10 minutes.
However, Leeds defended really well to foil Chelsea’s early attempts to open the scoring.
Kai Havertz came close to opening the scoring in the 16th minute after a solo run into the box, but his lobbed attempt was saved brilliantly by Illan Meslier.
The Blues kept asking the questions and Joao Felix was next to have a crack after latching on to a pass from Raheem Sterling in the box, only to see his shot come off the crossbar.
Leeds United looked second best for most of the first period but managed to see out the opening half as both teams went into the break with the scores deadlocked.
Second Half
Chelsea continued from where they left off in the first period, creating more chances as they looked desperate to find the opener.
Raheem Sterling saw his efforts spill across the post two minutes after the restart after latching to a pass from Loftus Cheek in the box.
Soon after, the Blues would finally have cause to celebrate as Wesley Fofana powered a header home for the hosts from a Ben Chilwell corner in the 53rd minute.

Chelsea looked in control for large spells of the second period, but Javi Garcia’s men created a few chances but failed to be clinical when it mattered most.
Leeds frustrated Chelsea who kept looking for a second goal, but made no secret of their intention to break at will.
Weston Mckennie and Tyler Adams were presented with chances to level matters, with both failing to convert on both occasion.
After four minutes of added time, Graham Potter’s men held on for a crucial 1-0 win against Leeds on Saturday evening, ahead of their midweek Champions league second-leg clash with Borussia Dortmund.

sack. pic.twitter.com/MZT1HRFqeA
We won. But there was absolutely no reason on earth to put the handbrake on at 1-0.

I know Potter is thinking about the immediacy of his job, but it is things like that that does not endear him. The right changes and we could have won that by 2 or 3 with how stretched Leeds were.
If Chelsea want any chance of beating Dortmund, Graham Potter should be sacked regardless of today's result. He's got us playing like a relegation side against 17th place Leeds. There's been no progress since September. Act before it's too late.
