The announcement came just an hour before the crucial match, leaving manager Erik ten Hag to reshuffle his starting lineup.

Brazilian winger Antony is expected to step in and fill the void left by Hojlund's absence, with Ten Hag expressing disappointment at losing the young talent for this important fixture.

Speaking ahead of the match against Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag revealed Hojlund’s illness saying, "Rasmus Højlund is not available today due to illness. He doesn't have the energy to start or be on the bench. You have to deal with it.”
