Why Vipers' Nigerian attacker Abubakar Lawal will not play for weeks
Six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC are set to miss the services of Nigerian midfielder-cum-forward Abubakar Lawal through injury.
The workaholic and versatile star did not make the squad that drew 1-1 with Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the UPL last time out.
He is also set to miss their Wednesday Uganda Cup bout against Iganga Young FC and a number of upcoming games for the Venoms.
"Nigerian Abubakar Lawal sustained a fracture to his right hand finger in our last Uganda Cup game against Rugarama FC and will be sidelined for weeks," Vipers disclosed.
Lawal has featured in 14 matches across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Last season, he played 24 games in the league and CAF Champions League as he netted five times, including Vipers' first-ever goal (against Raja Casablanca) in the competition's group stages.
Lawal joined Vipers from Rwandan outfit AS Kigali at the start of last campaign. He has also previously featured for Nasarawa United in Nigeria.
