Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new striker Tolu Arokodare got his first taste of Premier League action in the narrow 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United, and manager Vitor Pereira has shared his thoughts on the Nigerian’s debut performance.

The coach admitted there is still work to be done but praised the striker’s qualities and potential impact for the club going forward.

Pereira highlights Arokodare’s strengths

Arokodare, signed on deadline day from Belgian side KRC Genk, was thrust straight into the starting XI at St. James’ Park with Jorgen Strand sidelined by injury.

He lasted just over an hour before being replaced by Jhon Arias in the 66th minute, and though he failed to threaten in front of goal, his manager remained positive.

“We had one training with Tolu,” Pereira explained, underlining how quickly the 23-year-old was called into action.

“He’s a different player, he’s physically strong, he gives us the possibility to play long ball and to hold this ball and to give time for us to appear. He did well, of course he is not in the physical condition to do better.”

Room for growth as Wolves search for points

For Wolves, the result meant a fourth straight defeat to start the season, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

While the loss highlighted the team’s struggles, Pereira believes Arokodare can grow into a key figure once he adjusts to the pace and intensity of English football.

The Nigerian international now faces the challenge of settling in quickly, sharpening his match fitness, and proving that he can deliver goals in a league where Wolves desperately need firepower.

With time and integration, Pereira is confident the striker can repay the club’s faith and become a valuable asset in their fight for survival.
