World Cup Qualifiers: Fahad Bayo equals David Obua's incredible scoring record
Forward Fahad Bayo continues to impose himself as one of the most reliable players on the current Uganda Cranes team.
The MFK Vyskov goal-scorer netted once as the Cranes suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Guinea in the first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Friday at the Berkane Municipal Stadium.
The goal, incredibly, put him level with the legendary David Obua as the highest scorer in World Cup qualification matches for Uganda.
Obua, who retired about a decade back in 2015, scored four goals from Uganda in World Cup qualifiers, a feat that Bayo has now achieved.
His goal last evening added to three others netted in the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers, as he found the back of the net thrice in four games.
Bayo scored against Kenya in a 1-1 draw and added two in as many games (home and away) against Rwanda as Uganda won both games 1-0.
Astonishingly, Bayo's four goals have come in five World Cup qualification matches and carry a weight of seven points for Uganda.
The 25-year-old has now scored nine goals in 20 official games for the Uganda Cranes, dating back to 2018, representing a decent return.
He will be hoping he can add to his Cranes tally as they take on Somalia in the second qualification game, slated for Tuesday in Berkane.
