Yanga president Hersi Said mum on Benson Omala links

Yanga president Engineer Hersi Ally Said has distanced the club from talks linking the treble winners to Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala.

Despite recent reports from Tanzanian publication Habari Leo suggesting Yanga's interest in signing Omala for the upcoming 2022/2023 season, Hersi was evasive when questioned about the potential transfer.

"At the moment we cannot talk about transfers because for now, the window is not yet open," Hersi told reporters on Tuesday.

The rumors surrounding Omala's potential move to Yanga have generated considerable buzz within the football community in Tanzania.

The 21-year-old striker has been in phenomenal form, leading the goal-scoring charts in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) with an impressive tally of 25 goals. 

His remarkable performances have made him a strong contender for the coveted Golden Boot award.

Timu ya Wananchi are reportedly prepared to offer the talented forward a lucrative two-year contract and is willing to meet his financial demands. 

Speculation has intensified further due to the imminent departure of Fiston Mayele, who had a successful campaign but is set to leave the club.

Omala has been linked with several teams, including South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Orlando Pirates.

Many local coaches regard the former Western Stima attacker as the future of the Kenya national team.

Omala, who is currently out of the country with the national team, has also played for Swedish side FC Linkoping City, albeit on loan.
